Many long days on a tractor working on the farm didn’t bother this country boy- he used the hours to write his catchy country songs and dream about one day going to Nashville.
His love of music started at age 4 with his first instrument – the fiddle. Playing at churches and fall fairs at such a young age made James comfortable on the stage and he decided that this was where he wanted to be. He started to play the drums in grade 6 but it was in grade 7, when he picked up his first guitar that he really began to shine. Influenced by everyone from George Strait to Led Zepplin gave him a unique style and he would practice for hour upon hour mastering the instrument. He performed with bands – playing mostly lead guitar and travelling all over Ontario.
He continued to write and started to post videos of his originals on Youtube, one of which he sent out to publishing companies in Nashville. This led to his first trip to Tennessee, with his parents, and his first chance to write with some of Nashville’s leading country writers.
After MANY trips back and forth to the music capitol, he final got his chance to cut a demo CD with famed producer Shane Barrett and work with some of Music City’s top studio musicians to lay down 5 tracks including one of his originals “Back Yard Tan” – a favourite of his home town fans!
Back at home he was one of 5 finalists from Ontario on “Big in Small Town”- a CMT talent search competition that got him a lot of recognition with his peers. This past summer he won KICX 106′s “North of Nashville Star” competition at Kempenfest in Barrie and continues to chase his dream and play venues all over Ontario on a full time basis.
These days he spends more time on the road between Ontario and Nashville then on the tractor but his roots are still firmly planted in the country!
